Our North Star
Our mission is to raise awareness about rare diseases and promote inclusivity through storytelling, interviews, collaborations, and social media. Too often, those living with rare conditions go unheard, undiagnosed, and misunderstood. We believe that awareness leads to understanding, and understanding leads to change.
By education through empathy, we strive to shine a light on rare diseases, amplify patient voices, and foster collaborations with individuals, medical professionals, and advocacy groups. By sharing stories and breaking down medical complexities, we make the invisible, visible—ensuring that no one feels forgotten because of their diagnosis.
Together, we can turn rare into recognized and create a world where every condition—and every person— matters.
About The Founder : Mishti Patel
Mishti Patel, a 17-year-old high school student from Chicago, Illinois, has always had a deep passion for medicine. After relocating to North Carolina for high school, her interest only grew. Through internships and volunteer opportunities, Mishti became aware of the disparity faced by patients with lesser-known diseases. Driven by a desire to promote inclusivity, she founded the initiative "Doctor, What is That?" in 2024.

Since then, she has been tirelessly working to secure interviews with a diverse range of individuals and organizations, all in an effort to learn about and raise awareness for as many rare diseases as possible. Join Mishti in her mission to make the world a better place through empathy and education!
